Every single registered domain has a minimum of two Name Server records which show where it is hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain address to the servers of a specific web hosting provider. This way, you have both your website and your e-mails managed by the very same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are a number of other records, such as A and MX. The first one shows which server deals with the site for a given domain name and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the latter shows which server handles the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). As an example, when you type a domain address in your Internet browser, your request is sent through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain name uses and from there you will be sent to the servers of another provider if you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your domain name. Having separate records for the site and the emails means you could have your website and your emails with 2 different companies if you would like.
Custom MX and A Records in Website Hosting
If you have a website hosting service through our company, you'll be able to view, create and modify any A or MX record for your domains. So long as a given Internet domain has our Name Servers, you will be able to change certain records using our Hepsia hosting CP and have your website or e-mails pointed to any other service provider if you'd like to use only one of our services. Our leading-edge tool is going to permit you to have a domain hosted here and a subdomain below it to be hosted somewhere else by changing only its A record - this will not affect the main domain name at all. If you decide to use the email services of a different company and they want you to create more than two MX records, you can easily do this with just a few clicks within the DNS Records section of your CP. Also you can set different latency for every MX record i.e. which one will have priority.
Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers
Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you acquire a semi-dedicated server plan from us. The accounts are managed using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which features a section committed to the DNS records of your domains. The latter will be listed alphabetically and you could click on each of them to see both the A and the MX records. Modifying any record is as easy as entering the new one in a text box and saving the change, so even if you have never dealt with such matters before, you will not experience any problems if you wish to switch your website or e-mails to an alternative company while keeping the second service with our company. If required, you can also set up additional MX records and set a certain priority based on the instructions of the new provider.
