Data corruption is the damage of information because of various hardware or software failures. The moment a file is corrupted, it will no longer work correctly, so an app will not start or shall give errors, a text file can be partially or completely unreadable, an archive will be impossible to open then unpack, etc. Silent data corruption is the process of info getting harmed without any identification by the system or an admin, that makes it a serious problem for web hosting servers as failures are much more likely to happen on bigger hard disk drives where substantial volumes of information are located. If a drive is part of a RAID and the data on it is replicated on other drives for redundancy, it's very likely that the damaged file will be treated as an ordinary one and it'll be copied on all drives, making the damage permanent. A lot of the file systems that run on web servers nowadays often cannot locate corrupted files immediately or they need time-consuming system checks during which the server isn't working.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Website Hosting
We warrant the integrity of the data uploaded in each website hosting account that is created on our cloud platform due to the fact that we work with the advanced ZFS file system. The latter is the only one that was designed to avert silent data corruption using a unique checksum for every single file. We shall store your information on multiple NVMe drives which work in a RAID, so the exact same files will exist on several places simultaneously. ZFS checks the digital fingerprint of all the files on all of the drives in real time and if the checksum of any file is different from what it should be, the file system swaps that file with an undamaged version from some other drive inside the RAID. There's no other file system that uses checksums, so it is possible for data to become silently corrupted and the bad file to be duplicated on all drives over time, but since this can never happen on a server using ZFS, you don't have to concern yourself with the integrity of your information.
No Data Corruption & Data Integrity in Semi-dedicated Servers
If you obtain one of our semi-dedicated server solutions, you will not need to worry about silent file corruption because we use ZFS - an advanced file system which keeps track of all the files in real time. Each time you upload a file to your hosting account, ZFS will assign a unique digital fingerprint to it - the so-called checksum. This file will be synced between a couple of NVMe drives for redundancy, so if one drive fails, the other ones will take control. ZFS compares the checksum of all copies on the different drives and if it detects a corrupted copy, it replaces it with a healthy one from another drive. This happens right away, so there will be no danger for any part of your content at any moment. By comparison, all of the other file systems carry out checks only after a system malfunction, but since they do not use anything similar to the checksums which ZFS uses, they won't detect silently corrupted files, so a corrupted copy can be replicated on the other disks as well and you could lose crucial info. Since this isn't the case with ZFS, we are able to warrant the integrity of each file you upload no matter what.
